Our ornithology intern Sophie May Lewis is here for the month of October, and here's her first blog entry introducing herself as a member of the Isles of Scilly Wildlife Trust team.

October always sees arrivals on Scilly. Both birds and birders descend on the islands as the autumn kicks in.

This year those seasonal arrivals include me, Sophie May Lewis, Ornithology Intern Volunteer with Isles of Scilly Wildlife Trust.

I travelled here from my home in West Sussex, where I live in a rural town in the heart of the South Downs National Park, arriving on the Scillonian III at lunchtime Wednesday 1st October. Since then, it’s been a case of settling in, finding my bearings, and meeting friends and colleagues both new and familiar.

My role for the month is to work with (and learn from!) birders and the Wildlife Trust, hopefully building a mutually beneficial relationship between both parties.
So whether you are a local or a visitor, if you see me around stop me and say hello! I would love to know any bird or other wildlife sightings you have had, and am happy to try an answer any questions you may have about the Trust, who we are and what we do! Got a concern or a complaint or even a congratulatory comment? Let me know, I may be able to help or pass the message on!

If you don’t see me out and about, pop into the Bird Log at the Scillonian Club, as I will be there most evenings and you will find me at the IoS Wildlife Trust table; a great place to come to find out about the work of the Trust.

I will be here until near the end of October, so I look forward to meeting lots of you in that time!
