Isles of Scilly Steamship Group

Isles of Scilly Steamship Group has been in partnership with Isles of Scilly Wildlife Trust for a number of years, supporting and recognising the importance of Scilly’s precious nature and landscapes. Since 2019, they have hosted a 'donate' button on their website. This enables customers to donate to the Isles of Scilly Wildlife Trust when booking their holiday, and in four years the company and customers have raised an incredible £70,000 for us.

In previous years, the partnership has led to Marine Rangers being present on the Scillonian III to point out marine wildlife from the main deck and inspire people to take action for local wildlife. With an enforced break due to the pandemic, we are looking forward to restarting this in the coming months.

Support from the customers of Isles of Scilly Travel is vital to our work. Generous donations made through the booking website enable us to do so much to keep Scilly special, from clearing footpaths to saving ancient sites from disappearing into a mass of bramble and gorse and making sure all of our rare native flora and fauna continue to have the conditions to survive. IoS Travel is also a vital partner through invaluable discount tickets for all those travelling for Festival of Nature events. The Trust is delighted to work with the company at a strategic level through the Islands’ Partnership, making sure that the islands become more and more sustainable as a tourism destination.

Generous support from customers is invaluable in allowing the Trust to employ our hardworking ranger team, and the Trust’s four-legged workforce – a small herd of Red Ruby Devon Cattle, a native breed well suited to the climate and the island’s rough-grazing.

The Steamship Company gives back around £1 million per year to the local community, supporting a huge range of groups, good causes, sporting events, subsidised travel for island residents, medical flights and off-island freight. With more than 200 employees, including engineers, mariners, pilots, front line workers and office staff, the Steamship Group is one of West Cornwall’s biggest employers.

It has been delivering for Scilly for more than 100 years, connecting the islands with the rest of the country. Established by islanders in March 1920, the business has grown into a major air and sea operation, transporting more than 200,000 passengers and 15,000 tonnes of freight a year.
