Grey seal

The Isles of Scilly is a stronghold for Grey seals. These charismatic and popular species play an important role in the marine ecosystem and island tourism.

Most seals in the Isles of Scilly can be found on the Eastern Isles, the Western Rocks and the Norrad Rocks. During good weather local tripper boats have trips to the Eastern Isles/Western rocks to look at the seals and birds. You can find information about these from the Tourist Information Centre and information boards on the quay.

Cornwall Seal Group has actively studied seals in Scilly for a number of years. This has included photographic idenitification as each seal has a unique fur pattern. The secret lives of Grey seals are being discovered, including that seals travel between Scilly, Cornwall, Devon and Wales.
