Wildlife sites currently being grazed

Our wildlife sites are grazed on a regular basis; find out the current location of livestock here.

St. Mary's

  • 5 Red Ruby cattle at Mount Todden
  • 4 Dartmoor ponies on Peninnis

Bryher

  • 5 Shetland ponies, Shipmanhead Down
  • 6 Red Ruby cattle not on Trust land at present

St. Martin's

  • Church Town Farm sometimes graze cattle on our wildlife sites.

St. Agnes

  • Wingletang Down is grazed at times by cattle from Westward Farm
  • Castella Down is grazed at times by cattle from Troy Town Farm

All animals and fences are checked at least once a day by their owners, stock keepers or Trust wardens.

Access Care is taken to ensure that all permissive footpath, tracks and paths remained open in grazed areas and, where possible, offer alternative routes for walkers or horseriders.

Please note that Wildlife Trust owned animals graze farmland at times and are not always on Wildlife Trust wildlife sites and likewise farmers animals graze our wildlife sites.

The animals are owned by local farmers or The Isles of Scilly Wildlife Trust. All Wildlife Trust animals are routinely checked by a vet.
