Butterflies and moths

Lepidoptera

The Isles of Scilly are an ideal home for butterflies and moths thanks to our many flowering plants. The tall spikes of echium are popular with many species of butterflies and can attract large numbers throughout the summer. Day flying moths such as the six-spot burnet moth are a common sight, and of a night you may find a great diversity of moth species attracted to any lights that are left on.
