Lesser Black-backed Gull

Larus fuscus

<< back

Scilly is home to internationally important breeding populations of lesser black-backed gull, with over 2% of the UK's breeding population found here. The key features of LBBG's that can help you to identify them are there dark grey backs, and yellow legs.

Around the summer time, they are seen on the uninhabited islands, tending to keep away from areas active with people. It's important to avoid disturbing breeding colonies throughout the summer, which is something we always encourage people to remember.

Please take note of the map in the Access section of our website which shows restricted areas and areas where dogs should be kept under control/on leads during breeding season.
