Song Thrush

Turdus philomelos

<<back

One of the boldest bird species on the islands, here on Scilly they seem to have taken full advantage of the people who will happily feed them. Whether they join you for lunch, or invite themselves into your tent for breakfast, you can get a uniquely close view of these birds on the islands.

Their numbers are in serious decline across the UK, especially on farmland, and the populations on Scilly may well prove to be a strong hold one day. You can see them feeding on snails by cracking their shells on rocks, and hear their characteristic song throughout the breeding season. To be found all year round, they are a brilliant species to watch.
