Blackbirds

Turdus merula

<< back

Male blackbirds are jet black with brightly coloured orange beaks, while the females are more brown in appearance. They have one of the best known British birdsongs, and can be seen all throughout the year.

Here on the islands you may notice that the beaks of the males are a much more vivid orangey-red colour compared to the more yellow colours of their mainland cousins.
