Shot of the Landscape

Landscape photographer Mike McFarlane will be travelling to the Isles of Scilly as part of a unique conservation-inspired visual arts project, commissioned by The Wildlife Trusts. This project will see the creation of stunning 360 degree interactive colour images of landscape-scale conservation schemes in Scilly.

Landscape photographer Mike McFarlane will be travelling to the Isles of Scilly as part of a unique conservation-inspired visual arts project, commissioned by The Wildlife Trusts. Using public transport and his bicycle, Mike will cover thousands of miles during a 12 month tour of th UK, from the Isles of Scilly all the way up to the Scottish Highlands!

This project will see the creation of stunning 360 degreeinteractive colour images of landscape-scale conservation schemes in Scilly and the rest of the UK. The Isles of Scilly Wildlife Trust believes the images will inspire local residents about the natural world they live in, whist illustrating the variety, scope and importance of its vision for A Living Landscape.

Peninnis flowers, photograph by Darren HartThrough the development of Living Landscape schemes, the once traditional focus of conservation has ben broadened from protecting individual nature reserves to considering the landscape as a whole. The Isles of Scilly Wildlife Trust's nature reserves form the basis of these schemes.

By visiting The Isles of Scilly Wildlife Trust's Living Landscape conservation schemes Mike McFarlane will capture stunning colour images and create high resolution panoramas and virtual reality 'tours'.

Mike will complete the tour by May 2012, he will then produce a complete set of 360 degreephotographs for the scheme(s). The 360 degreetours offer the chance to be truly immersed in the subject of the photo, The rich visual content will be linked with audio, video and online content to make the experience of the photograph interactive. These will be available to view at events and on The Wildlife Trusts websites.

Mike McFarlane gave his engineer career up in 2002 to follow his passion for composing inspiring images. Mike feels that each photograph should educate and enthrall the viewer, whilst hopefully stimulating a more positive attitude towards the natural world. The 360 degree tours offer the chance to be truly immersed in the subject of the photo.

Mike is committed to protecting the natural world and lowering his carbon footprint. Using a combination of the folding bicycle and public transport will reduce the typical photographer's carbon footprint by 45% if they were driving. (Carbon footprint project by car 2932kg, by train/bike 1302kg).
