    This year the Isles of Scilly Wildlife Trust is celebrating National Marine Week (23rd July to 7th August 2016) and we are inviting everyone to join in.   • Chemical Management of Bracken ~ Summer 2016

    Although some Bracken is good it is a very dominant plant and, if not controlled, it will take over the landscape; suffocating many of our other wildflowers which are not as fast growing. Throughout Scilly's history Bracken has been used by locals in various ways; i.e animal bedding, fuel, packing materials, but as this now happens less and less the way that Bracken is managed also needs to change.

    Every year Scilly's business and residents get together to spruce up the Islands following the winter storms, and this year we've had our fair share; since Christmas we’ve had visits from Frank, Gertrude, Imogen and Jake. So the volunteers who turned out at the weekend for the Great Scilly Spring Clean 2016 definitely had their work cut out!
