The 'Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty'

A significant recent development for Scilly's environment was the establishment of the Isles of Scilly Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB).

The AONB is administered by a Joint Advisory Committee (JAC) that is comprised of representatives of the partnership agencies involved in the AONB. These are the Isles of Scilly Wildlife Trust, the Council of the Isles of Scilly, the Duchy of Cornwall, the Countryside Agency, English Heritage, English Nature and DEFRA (formerly MAFF).
The Isles of Scilly Wildlife Trust is pledged to work with its partner agencies to protect the environment of Scilly.
The formation of such a partnership will ensure close collaboration between the various stakeholders to ensure that the management of the environment is developed in an holistic way, while allowing the Trust to concentrate on its key areas of land management and wildlife conservation.
