Scilly’s Wilder Winter Appeal
Scilly's Winter Work
So many of our day-to-day activities can go by unnoticed, but this essential work keeps our landscapes in shape to support all of our island species.
Our small and wonderful Ranger Team works year round to manage habitat across around 700 hectares of land, protecting habitats for hundreds of species. Much of the work involves managing heathland for biodiversity, and keeping paths cut back and open for locals and visitor alike.
Why we need you
There is a lot that goes into managing and protecting our island habitats.
Our conservation grazing herds provide a huge benefit in encouraging the small wildflowers that are such an important habitat for insects and pollinators. Our goats are rotated to targeted areas using no-fence collars, and we keep a close eye on herds for any health issues that might need a vet visit.
Our machinery must be kept maintained, so our Ranger team can do their essential work with the best tools to keep paths open, and the landscape healthy.
Many of these things may go unnoticed, however they’re so crucial to guarding unique habitats and the species that live here. Your support will keep Scilly special over winter and into next year.
