Amanda Pender

I hope to be able to bring specific skills to the Trust, most notably that of sourcing and the successful application of funding in order to ensure that the work of the Trust continues for the benefit of us all.

Amanda was elected to the Board by Members at our 2015 AGM and is one of our On-Island Trustees. To find out a little more about her read on...

Amanda was born and raised in Scilly, living on Tresco and attending school firstly on Tresco and then on St Mary’s; leaving the islands in the early 1990’s to study on the mainland, firstly at Penwith Sixth Form College and then at Sussex University, where she received a degree in History.

There followed an eclectic career path that included working in the Far East, within the sphere of geotechnical engineering, and teaching in Singapore before returning to the UK and Cornwall to work within the fishing industry.

Amanda returned to Scilly in 2000 to reside on Bryher with her husband and young family.  She has since worked in the Local Authority, for thirteen years, within the sphere of Lifelong Learning & Economic Development; most notably heading up the Local Action Group programme that saw some £2.25m of funds injected into the economy of Scilly.

More recently Amanda has been instrumental in the development, from infancy, of the Islands’ Partnership, the islands marketing and destination organisation, before leaving there in May 2015 to concentrate on setting up the Bryher based Island Fish Ltd.
