Spring Migration

The spring migration is underway, and it won't be long before we begin to see our first summer migrants arrive on the islands.

The Isles of Scilly are a hotspot for migrant birds, and bird watchers everywhere will be on the look out for signs of this years arrivals. There has already been the first wheatear of the year spotted on the coastal path between Porth Hellick and Deep Point, but on the mainland there have already been reports of swallows, sand martins, and house martins. You can read more about the spring migration in the UK on BBC Earth

As ever on Scilly, we will also be eagerly awaiting the sound of cuckoo's back on the islands. The BTO are tracking their progress as they make their back up from Central Africa to the UK. You can follow their progress yourself on their website
